Fishing
There is ample opportunity in the locale to attempt to outwit the Atlantic Salmon, Wild Brown Trout and its migratory cousin, the Sea Trout.
This south west area of Scotland has some real quality, low-priced salmon fishing in rivers such as the Doon, Stinchar and Ayr. The River Stinchar, in South Ayrshire is perhaps the most celebrated of the local salmon rivers, and it can have excellent runs of Salmon, especially in the late Summer and Autumn. In common with most west-coast rivers, the fish run best after heavy rain.
Arran provides some first-rate spate river fishing potential in an island which offers wide and diverse tourism opportunities.
Sea, river and loch are all very accessible from nearby Inverkip. Ardgowan Estates in Inverkip operate facilities for loch and river fishing in Renfrewshire. And at nearby Haddockston Water, with its own spring fed fly fishing loch fully stocked with the finest quality rainbow trout even the most experienced of fly fishermen is provided with a sporting challenge.
There are numerous lochs in the area offering fishing for Brown Trout, often in beautiful surroundings. The fish tend not to be huge, but are hard fighting and, pan fried with oatmeal, make a delicious breakfast! |
